If you already have an existing Kroger account:

Thanksgiving Baskets Are Coming! Get One or Give One

September 11, 2016

Whole Homemade Thanksgiving TurkeySlow basted turkeys, mom’s homemade stuffing, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, collard greens, pumpkin pie … mmmmm … is your mouth watering yet?

Each year around this time we start taking Thanksgiving Basket orders for anyone living in North Memphis who’d like one. We start by spreading the word among families currently involved in one of our many ministry programs such as: Read2Succeed, Angel Street Choir, Warrior Princesses, Pathfinders (Middle School Bible Study), Life Builders (High School Bible Study), families renting homes in Bearwater Park/North Memphis from us, those involved in our young mom’s ministry, and of course, all of our senior citizens who are involved in our daily program … and beyond!

A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor – Proverbs 22:9

Here’s what you need to do to order yours:

Join us in worshiping together from 12:00-1:15pm at Hope City Church (Caldwell-Guthrie School, 951 Chelsea Ave) and then register for your basket at the close of the service Nov. 6 or 13. Cost per basket is $5 (cash only) and will need to be turned in at the time of registration.

Pick up your basket after worshiping with us on Nov. 20 at Hope City Church. We’ll be around from 12-3pm with plenty of time to plan your menu for your holiday feast on Nov. 24th!

If you have extra and would like to donate food for the Thanksgiving Baskets:

Drop-off your donations at any of our Oasis of Hope office locations, or Hope Church in the marked carts located across the campus anytime in November, or just leave them behind your vehicle in the parking lot and we will pick them up while you attend Hope Church services each weekend.

Jasmine Went From Oasis Participant to Oasis Staffer!

January 01, 2016

God doe2015-jasmine-web500s amazing things when you submit yourself to His will!

At the inception of Oasis of Hope, I was in the 7th grade at Humes Middle School. My life would be forever changed by the existence of “The Green House” which was a safe haven for all the children of the neighborhood run by Oasis. We were able to go there to hang out and just be kids!

Eventually, we started having Bible studies and other events and the staff and volunteers willingly shared their lives with me and gave me a whole new perspective of the world! At some point in my Jr. High years a shift happened in my mind, and I started taking ownership of my community. From that point on I knew I would be a part of the good changes that would happen in my neighborhood!

In the Fall of 2009 I went away to Union University for college, but due to unfortunate circumstances I had to return to Memphis. I immediately got re-involved with the Oasis programs; everything from Bible Studies to Vacation Bible School, and in the Fall of 2010, I enrolled in classes at the University of Memphis and I received a scholarship from Oasis of Hope to pursue my higher education. I graduated from the U of M in May 2014 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Supply Chain Management.

My desire was to continue to be involved with Oasis just as a volunteer and pursue a career in business, however, God had His own plans and my time to do my part for God’s Kingdom had come. Through the transition of several different staff members, God was calling me to accept a staff position with Oasis. It took me a moment to reflect over my life to see how God had equipped me for what He was calling me to. In November 2014, I said “yes” to God’s calling for me and obeyed His command. I am now the Middle School Youth Developer! I am willingly sharing my life with the youth in the same community I grew up in, so that God can use me to ignite a fire in their hearts for Jesus! It has been a surreal feeling to see all this come full circle, but it’s only because I chose to submit to God’s will.

Jasmin Martin, Oasis of Hope Middle School Youth Developer

To conclude the retreat on Sunday morning we attended the 8:00am church service which included a shout-out from Pastor Eli! The retreat was a fun-filled bonding time for the girls and their mentors and it takes the girls out of their usual inner city environment. View slideshow.

Bittersweet Changes to the Oasis Staff Roster

December 02, 2014

We are so excited to introduce to you two new members to the Oasis staff. However…they are not new to our ministry. Actually they have been involved with Oasis of Hope since the very beginning. First, Jasmine Martin was a young girl in elementary school when Oasis of 2014-11-oasis-staff-changesHope came into her neighborhood. She has been involved with us for more than a decade, first as a student, then as a volunteer, and finally as a coordinator. After graduating from the University of Memphis Jasmine has felt the Lord’s call to join the staff of Oasis of Hope in the role of our Middle School Developer. To have a passionate young lady who loves the Lord and her community like Jasmine does is a huge blessing to the ministry! Jasmine officially joined the team on November 17. Welcome Jasmine – we’re so glad you’re here!

Second is Kathleen McDonald. Like Jasmine, Kathleen has been with the ministry from the beginning, first as a volunteer, then as our first Youth/Education Coordinator, then back to being a volunteer again for a number of years. Now the Lord has led full circle to allow Kathleen to join us again as our Youth Ministry Manager. Her skills, experience, relationships in the neighborhood, and passion for God’s Word are what makes her an amazing gift to the ministry. We feel so blessed to have her back on staff and are looking forward to what the Lord is going to do in the lives of our young people in the coming year(s). Kathleen rejoined the team on November 10, welcome back All-Star!

All this good news doesn’t come without a cost, however. It is with HUGE sadness that we announce that Brenda Lampela, the current head of our youth department, is leaving for a new call. She and her husband Eric will be moving to Indianapolis at the end of the year. Brenda has beyond a doubt loved like Christ loves, served like Christ serves, and has been a HUGE reason for the growth in our youth ministry. Her organization, passion, and encouragement have often times been the glue that held the ministry together. Her deep friendship with staff, volunteers, students and parents will be missed maybe most of all. I can’t tell you how much her humble, joyful spirit has meant to me over the years. It is so hard to imagine ministry without this great soldier and dear friend! Brenda won’t be leaving until December 19th, so please take some time between now and then to tell her thanks for ALL she has done for the ministry here in North Memphis. Our lives are so much richer for having known her!
