Job Title: Assistant Youth Developer
Type of Position: Part-Time (24 hours a week)
Reports to: Ministry Director/Lead Youth Developer
Salary Range: $12.00 per hour

General Description:
The Assistant Youth Developer is responsible for supporting the coordinating and implementation of the daily/weekly program structure of the Oasis of Hope Community Outreach initiatives for youth and young adults in our inner-city neighborhood of North Memphis.
Duties and Responsibilities (Daily duties include but are not limited to what’s listed below):

• Provide spiritual leadership, mentorship and guidance to area youth and their families
• Maintain a relational philosophy of urban ministry consistent with Oasis of Hope
• Learn and adhere to the core values of Hope Presbyterian Church
• Coordinate and implement a weekly after-school program
• Coordinate and implement mentorship programs for neighborhood youth
• Have a “Whatever It Takes” attitude and passion for youth ministry
• Respond to communications promptly with supervisors, youth, and volunteers
• Support and nurture positive relationships with other community organizations, existing and new church partners, para church ministries, neighborhood schools, etc.
• Assist in the recruitment, training, equipping, and encouragement of volunteers
• Build relationships with neighborhood youth and be intentional about furthering the Gospel of Christ through weekly school visits, attending school events, sporting events, home visits, etc.
• Research and implement cutting edge and diverse urban youth activities and programs
• Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences
• Maintain site cleanliness and maximize use of equipment, supplies, and resources
Additional Duties and Responsibilities (Duties considered non-daily but based on request and need):
• Evening and weekend ministry assignments w/ Hope City Church and Hope Church
• Encourage youth participants and their families to attend/visit Hope City Church
• Attend, support, and volunteer (at) community events
Requirements, Skills, and Abilities:
• Love and be a follower of Jesus Christ
• Have a humble, teachable, servant heart
• Be a student of God’s Word and passionate about sharing and teaching it to others
• Effectively communicate the Gospel in a real and relevant way to inner-city youth and others
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. and Social Media platforms
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Innovative leadership and mentoring skills
• Well-versed in current youth issues

Experience and Education:
• 1-2 years urban youth leadership experience with a reputable organization
• Completion of high school, collegiate experience preferred

We are looking for volunteers who love kids and would like to invest in youth through one of our numerous programs like tutoring, mentoring, monitoring youth play and games, discipleship, serving food, assisting with worship, and more!

Elementary School Youth (2nd – 5th grade)
-Mon/Tues/Thurs 3:00-6:00 PM and Wed 1:00-6:00 PM
-Read2Succeed (R2S): Mon and Wed from 4:30-6:00PM
-Warrior Princess & Lion’s Cage: Sat 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Middle School Youth (6th – 8th grade)
-Mon/Wed/Thurs 4:00-6:00 PM and Tues 4:00-8:00 PM
-The Unashamed: Tues 5:30-7:30 PM

High School Youth (9th – 12th grade)
-Mon/Tues/Thurs 2:30-6:30 PM and Wed 2:00-6:30 PM
-The Uncommon: Wed 5:00 – 6:30 PM

New logoThis year we are celebrating our 10th year in business by continuing to provide affordable, needed home items in an under-resourced community as well as offering employment and job training. We want to make it the best year yet!

Here’s how you can help:
- Volunteer: we need people to work in the retail store (customer service, sales, cleaning products, sorting/pricing items, appliance repair, etc.)
- Donate: send us your gently used donations of appliances, furniture, and home décor. You can drop off items in the trailer at Hope Church in the parking lot, or contact us to pick up your large items
- Shop: we need customers to make the business work; so please come and shop!

IMG_3165If you are good with numbers and enjoy helping people, we would love your seasonal help on Saturdays between January-April from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Be trained by our certified instructors to file returns, or simply greet people and help them organize their information for the preparers. To date we’ve helped our neighbors save more than $3.9 million in tax credits and filing fees. This is a great way to make a practical difference and save families hundreds of dollars!  Contact for details.

Details are:

Registration Opens: Monday, February 26th (limited spots available). Register at BCC between 4-6pm Mondays-Thursdays

Where: The OEC at the Bickford Community Center (BCC)

Who: Elementary and Middle School Students

When: March 12th-15th, from 8am-5pm

Fees: $35/per child (breakfast and lunch will be provided)
