“READy” is a summer reading program being offered by Oasis of Hope in the month of June at our ministry house, The Cut. It’s an extension of Read2Succeed (R2S) and only for students (grades 2nd-5th) who attended during the Read2Succeed school year, but who are behind a grade level in reading their sight words & struggle with basic phonic skills.
Many of these students reached their individual goals set by R2S: gained 150 or more sight words from their initially assessed baseline & passed 7 Bench Mark reading comprehension quizzes. Even with this past year’s gains they remain their sight word recognition & reading comprehension is below their grade equivalency.
These students will attend two hours a day, two days a week, for four weeks (Every Tuesday in June: 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th from 12p-2p).
Each student will be matched with a coach and receive instruction in phonics, fluency & sight words. The typical student loses almost 3 months worth of skills over the summer. READy should deter this loss & instead equip them for the new school.
