What an awesome God we serve!
We had an amazing time on Easter Sunday; our Easter Extravaganza was a great success! We experienced rocking praise and worship, a radical word, and a remarkable egg hunt for the kids.
For me personally, the highlight of the day was not the turnout of 350 men, women, youth and children, but the highlight happened when I felt lead to break away from the service and check out the parking lot which was filled to capacity to my surprise. As I was outside, I noticed two young adult females walking away from the lot out the back gate. I immediately engaged them by asking, “Hey! Where are ya’ll going?”
One of the ladies replied as I introduced myself, “I don’t have on the right clothes. I didn’t know this was a church service. I need to go change because I don’t want people looking at me and talking about what I am wearing.”
At that moment it became apparent to me why I had been lead to slip outside. It was a moment that God would have no one else to seize, but the Pastor of this “New Kind of Church!” I comforted the young lady with these words, “We’re not that kind of church. You can wear whatever you have to wear. We won’t judge you. This will be the kind of church where all are welcome to come just as they are. No one will judge you here because it is God’s job to judge us all.”
My words assured her, and we went into the building to worship. That moment confirmed for me that God has us in the right place, at the right time, for the right reasons in North Memphis.
Many more stories happened on Sunday and more can be shared by others who also witnessed moving interactions. We’d love to hear other thoughts, highlights, and experiences.
Undoubtedly, I especially want to say, Thank you to all that made this day a success. Thank you to everyone for their prayers and support!
Stay tuned for updates on what is next for the church plant as we reach new milestones, with a goal of launching in the fall of 2016.
