Despite having to reschedule the Easter Egg Hunts due to storms, it was still a great success and we had a huge turn-out of kids in attendance!! Imagine all the candy and eggs needed for 425 students from the KIPP Accademy Hunt and 250 children from the Community Hunt!! Thank you again to all of our wonderful volunteers for your donations of eggs and candy and for being so flexible and making this tradition so much fun!
Through our tax ministry, Oasis has had following impact on the community we serve: In five years we have filed 883 returns with an economic impact of $1,230,000 in the community, through both the credits and refunds we have helped citizens get and the free service we provide for preparing and filing the return. With an average refund of over $2200 per return this is a tremendous ministry that impacts our fellow citizens at a time when they could use every bit of help that we can provide. This year alone we filed 121 returns and saved people $295,105 (up from last year)! All of this was done FREE by our volunteers who put in 310 of their own hours to do so! Many, many thanks to Doug Edwards, Volunteer Coordinator, and ALL the volunteers who were trained and willing to serve in this way!
Thank you to all of the dedicated volunteers who made this day SO special and fun! If you would like to join us in sponsoring an elementary class by providing basic school parties such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter, we’d love to have you join us by getting to know some great kids and being an example of Christ to them. The purpose of this ministry is to provide encouragement to teachers and motivation for students. For more info contact Brenda.
It was a lot of fun, and believe it or not, most of the eggs made it out the door in one piece!! This ministry is a one-on-one reading enrichment program for Caldwell elementary students in grades K-5. R2S encourages a child to read through building positive relationships with committed adult readers. Tutor an elementary child in reading, share Bible stories or songs, and just love on ‘em! R2S is located at In the Cut, 932 N. Sixth Street. Click here to fill out the required background check form. Contact Brenda.
Over 260 kids (ages 2-18) hip-hopped into Easter at our Oasis of Hope 2010 Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt last Friday. Here’s what you get when God provides a beautiful sunny day, 25 amazing volunteers and 3,000 hidden Easter eggs (some of them were special ‘Bunny Buck Eggs’ and others ‘Special Golden Eggs’ with cash prizes): an “Easter Explosion of Fun & Fellowship!” The Easter Bunny was on hand for photos with the kids and the Face Painters got them ready! Many blessings and thanks to everyone who helped Oasis with this fun-filled Easter event!
If you would like to invest in the lives of some of our young boys in the neighborhood through assisting in coaching a 12 and under basketball team, we’ve got your opportunity! We will have a team in the Spring MAM league starting April 10th. It would require one evening game per week and/or one Saturday game a week, from April 10 – May 13. Contact Terrice or call 527-0074 for more information
It’s time for THINKSHOW! (formerly called Exhibition of Student Work) on Thursday, April 29! Caldwell Elementary needs lots of Oasis volunteers to serve as jurors to judge student projects at the school on April 29, anytime during the day between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Volunteers who have done this in the past have really enjoyed it, and it only takes about an hour of your time. Please register online by April 15, or contact Brenda Lampela (496-5516) for more information.
Click here to see before and after pictures. Meet James and Shalita our first employees!
