For me the one factor that has changed is this: relationship. I'm now privileged enough to see into his life and his limitations ... including not being taught more acceptable (in my culture) ways of dealing with one's problems! I don't know if investing in this kid's life will steer him down a better path, but I am positive that compassion is a GOOD thing. I grew up in a racially hateful community and resented the ignorance that fueled that sentiment. An ounce of exposure, education and empathy would set free so many souls who perpetuate that even today. I thank God for showing me just how rich I could be from a better understanding, given to me by countless friends over the years. And I pray to God that He will bring peace to those who have not yet received that same gift. My America is that melting pot. A nice, full-bodied stew simmered from countless flavors... not merely a white potato broth. Nicely put, Jennifer!
