Weekly meetings/REHEARSALS:

Monday & Thursday: 4:30 - 6:00 pm

our mission is:

Angel Street focuses on mentoring individuals, team building, and united fellowship through collaborations with other youth ministries. The Angel Street experience is an outlet of creativity that strives to invest in young artists to encourage, nurture and develop deep desires for furthering education.

Angel Street is available to girls ages 8-18 from several schools in the area (Caldwell-Guthrie, Humes Prep Academy, KIPP, MAHS). Just as athletics instill confidence and discipline for many youth in our city, we have a desire to do the same through music. We hope to build camaraderie and unity with a unique group of students, exposing them to a variety of exciting opportunities.

Meetings will take place at least once a week on Thursdays from 4-5:30p at the Bickford Community Center (12 weeks each semester), which includes an introduction to basic music education, team building, fun activities, creative art projects, and performance opportunities during special events. Our long-term goals are to develop songwriting skills and experience professional live studio recordings (in Memphis and/or Nashville).

Participation in quality music programs has been proven to improve academic performance in students. Studies cited in the Journal of Research in Music Education show that students in quality music programs scored 22% higher in English and 20% higher in math in comparison to students in deficient music programs. Furthermore, according to the same journal, studies have shown that the proportion of minority students with a music teacher role model was larger than any other discipline, including English, elementary school, and physical education.
